Les Morts Breakfast
03:19
|
|||
I hear the whistle call me downstairs,
someone's put on a pot of tea.
Cracked a couple eggs to make an omelette,
never thought that could get to me.
You got me thinking.
You got me thinking about.
You got me thinking,
how can I live without,
without dying?
Throw me right into the frying pan,
never set foot in the fire.
Lay me down on a bed of oil.
I listen to the stovetop choir.
You got me thinking.
You got me thinking about.
You got me thinking,
how can I live without,
without dying?
We all live for something,
and maybe even die having done what it was we came here to do.
We all have a reason,
even if it's just doing something good for someone other than you.
You got me thinking.
You got me thinking about.
You got me thinking,
how can I live without,
without dying?

Desert Aquarium
02:39
|
|||
I will drive out however long it takes.
I will plant you brand new cemetery gates.
I will leave you wherever it gets hotter.
You can swim for sure, if you can find the water.
What you have done to me I will do to them.
What you've done to me will come around and bite you in the end.
If you wanna see your precious pets again.
You can find me in the desert throwing fish into the sand.
When you left me you left me with a key.
You will pay for taking your frustration out on me.
Like a piranha, you took a bite out of my chest.
Now I'll do the same to you, maybe you can find what's left.
What you have done to me I will do them.
All these evil things you've done will come around and bite you in the end.
If you ever wanna see your precious pets again.
You can find me in the desert throwing fish into the sand.

Smokestack
03:00
|

Down where the rocks meet the water
ascending like a pillar is the cigarette tower.
Presiding and rising up over the town
giving every single living thing power.
Steam flowing up out of your concrete lungs
try to keep the pressure built up inside.
God Of Energy plagued by the people
trying to make gods of themselves in time.
If it hurts you just look at it from another angle,
another point of view.
It's gonna get hot but you've gotta stay cool
Boiling point struck a couple times over
smoke builds deep down in your throat.
Eyes fog as your power lines fray
things chained to the bedrock rising to float.
Stress fractures in your bones
the same ones forming all over your skin.
Catastrophic meltdown
collapsing from within.
If you're falling to keep everybody else up
devolving until they know you stayed tough.
If you're falling to keep everybody else up
dissolving until you've earned all of their love.
If it hurts you just look at it from another angle,
another point of view.
It's gonna get hot but you've gotta stay cool

Couches
03:25
|
|||
Thanks for the invite,
not sure what I'd rather do on a Friday night.
Probably just sit at home by myself,
illuminated by a TV light.
You're all happy I showed up,
but you never seem to see me having any fun.
Maybe that's why I don't always go,
gotta blame a bad party on someone.
We're the kind of people who sit on couches at parties.
If we brought the energy down,
we're sorry.
We don't drink that much
we don't dance that much.
I offer my sincerest apologies for you inviting us.
But we were fine, yeah we had a good time
We were alright, 'cause we found a couch.
But I'm happy to go out,
at least it means it's later when I come home.
And I can sleep without the guilt,
or feeling like I'm always alone.
I'll keep my phone tight in my hand.
I'll show up but make no promises I'll be fun.
I don't wanna dance,
I don't wanna take that chance.
I just wanna sit and talk to someone.
And maybe you'll come through for me.
Maybe you'll sit down next to me.
Then we both can be
The kind of people who sit on couches at parties.
If we brought the energy down,
we're sorry.
We don't drink that much
we don't dance that much.
I offer my sincerest apologies for you inviting us.
But we were fine, yeah we had a good time
We were alright, 'cause we found a couch.

Willing To Lose
03:37
|
|||
I don't have much but I'm glad
Don't have many things but I'm not sad.
'cause you're still here
and things are good when you're alive.
I can't go many places but that's fine,
'cause your hand is tracing over my mind.
And you're not gone
so things are good when you're alive.
I don't wanna give your life up
I almost lost you once that won't happen again.
There's always something to gain
and something to lose.
The last thing I'm willing to lose is you.
Won't eat every meal but I'll live
don't have much to take but I still give.
Whatever you need
'cause things are good when you're alive.
I may have been cut but I won't bleed,
won't see my friends but you're all I need.
til you are stabilized
things are good when you're alive.
Never wanna hear your heart stop.
Almost lost you once that won't happen again.
I want to tell you and what I tell you is true.
The last thing I'm willing to lose is you.
I'll never hear that you've gone
I won't be here when they say you've moved on.
I will live in the past as long as I can.
And I will be stuck to the ground
as long as I stand.
And I will protest from my feet to my finger tips
straight up to the clear sky blue
The last thing I'm willing to lose is you.

On Pace
03:24
|
|||
Out in the middle distance,
runners set their marks
Clapping hands and cheering fans,
drop on the gunshot sparks.
Keep on track, keep on pace.
You don't have to win this race.
Just try not to fall,
If you don't get up quick enough
it won't matter at all.
Jumpers find their footing
and jump with open arms
Dig your hands into the sand
and save yourself from harm.
No you don't have to be good at making it
You just have to make it through.
It's not how well you do it.
It's what you do.
Sprinters lungs sharp and dry
Muscles tearing and minds sore
Collapsed in piles the broken child
Know what you're running from.
Know what you're running for.
Keep on track, keep on pace.
You don't have to win this race.
Just try not to fall,
If you don't get up quick enough
it won't matter at all.

Bering Watchtower
02:32
|
|||
Rolled in last night in the rain,
unpacked my bags and slept hard.
Dreamt of the sunsets back north
Those long nights standing guard.
Shook myself awake once or twice
Thoughts of those last days in Bering.
Drove to the street where he lived
took my time preparing.
I came up and knocked on the door
rang the bell twice.
I waited for the footsteps
I was dressed up nice.
When she opened up the door.
I could see her eyes well
And I knew that she knew
when she saw me standing by myself.
I opened up my mouth
and I choked on the words.
She broke when she heard.
I hugged her tight in my hands.
Felt our fingers go numb.
You've got to be prepared.
For when the storm comes.

Temporary Tattoo
03:01
|
|||
I'm not the kind to make myself a canvas.
But if you knew me you would know.
I never agree with my past self all that much.
People pass through me and this I've shown.
But if you accept me in knowing
just how impermanent I can be.
I'll leave an imprint to remember you
and even though it'll fade.
I'll remember the space that wasn't always blank.
I've got a temporary tattoo
and it's a picture of you.
I don't know how long I'll stay this way.
I've got a temporary tattoo
and it's a picture of you.
I found it in a magazine.
We both knew this ink wasn't going deep.
But it didn't change the beauty of the print.
An ending leaves a bad taste in your mouth
but the end is sometimes worth the sin.
I remember you staring at me.
That smile light pressed on my arm.
Met in the same place that you left,
laughed in the same why that you wept.
So if you accept me in knowing
just how impermanent I can be.
I'll leave an imprint to remember you
and even though it'll fade.
I'll remember the space that wasn't always blank.
I've got a temporary tattoo
and it's a picture of you.
I don't know how long I'll stay this way.
I've got a temporary tattoo
and it's a picture of you.
I don't know how long I'll stay this way.
I've got a temporary tattoo
and it's a picture of you.
I found it in a magazine in a dream.

Summer Beach Trip '95
02:45
|
|||
White hot sun
but they said there'd be sand
We got rocks
A couple baskets in our hands
there won't be a sequel to this trip
there's only one place I can stand and not feel sick.
This didn't have to be a disaster
we can make this work somehow
this is not the party I was after
stick with me and we'll stick it out.
The fat birds,
spirits soaring around in hell
my head rings
like the marina's lighthouse bell
I can't breathe
my lungs all filled with salt
Don't wanna be here,
but I promise it's not your fault.
This didn't have to be a disaster
we can make this work somehow
this is not the party I was after
stick with me and we'll stick it out.
Long days seem shorter with you
we got here at a quarter to ten
let's listen to the sunset in blue
then we can go
and never come back again.
This didn't have to be a disaster
we can make this work somehow
this is not the party I was after
stick with me and we'll stick it out.

Join Me On The Floor
03:20
|
|||
Join me on the floor
it's awful down here
Join me on the floor
where we can disappear.
It's too hot and I can't breathe.
So join me on the floor
and feel awful with me.
Meet me downstairs
and we can take the bus
out into town
just the two of us.
It's too nice to stay in tonight
so meet me down stairs
and make me feel alive.
Kiss me on the cheek
or anywhere you like
it doesn't matter much to me
I won't put up a fight
You're too damn good to my damned soul
so kiss me on the cheek
make me lose control
Yeah join me on the floor
and feel awful with me.

Hot pavement and long conversations
I'm waiting patiently to make the right statement.
I can tell how you feel
when the fire's burning and you're hot on my heels.
Switch and step to one side
switch back to the other
feel the fast twitch fibers
in a parking lot in the middle of summer.
You drop by to tell me
you're okay and you met with him
He says we're completely covered
the insurance check has come in, yeah.
Hot pavement and long conversations
I'm waiting patiently to make the right statement.
I can tell how you feel
when the fire's burning and you're hot on my heels.
Been a while but we're good now
haven't seen you since then.
How's the husband and your kids,
and your job and your pets and your best friends?
No I haven't been up to much
it's kind of lonely on this mattress side
got a job but the place sucks
maybe I'll see you again when dad dies.
Saw an old man try to stay between the lines
saw a bird leave its mark and fly away
Fished a soccer ball out from beneath a car.
It's a hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot day.
Hot pavement and long conversations
I'm waiting patiently to make the right statement.
I can tell how you feel
when the fire's burning and you're hot on my heels.

Aloneliness
02:56
|
|||
It's seven-fifteen on a summer evening
and I don't know if it's nice outside
'cause I haven't left the house at all yet
and I don't know if I'm hungry
or if my body wants me to sleep
for the fourth or fifth time today.
I bet, I bet it's that one.
Now the late light outside beats down on my street
and I should put the dog outside.
It's a reason to get out of bed and I can't think of a better one why.
I need someone to rescue me but I don't know who to call.
I guess I'm stuck here by myself.
It's 8pm and the sprinkler's still on.
It's been on for three hours more than it should've been
but the plants need to drink I've been told
and I think about the people that I miss.
They're having fun and they don't miss me
except for when they're lonely.
Oh I hope, I hope they get sad too.
Now the early dark presses down through my window
and I haven't heard back from my friends
I want these walls to close on me but that's now how this life's gonna end.
I need someone to rescue but I don't know who even cares.
I guess I'm stuck here by myself.

Invent The Wheel
03:37
|
|||
You've read more of the books on my shelf than I have.
You made more friends in my hometown than I ever had.
You're nice to me, I'm excited to see you're comfortable.
We're blossoming into an awesome thing we're untouchable.
You know all of my passwords by heart by now.
You've memorized the name of every street since you been in town.
You wake me up, you keep me up you're inexhaustible.
I hesitate to say anything is possible.
But that's how you make me feel.
I used to lack a sword, now I go out on my shield.
I didn't know what I had, but you brought it out.
I provide the chassis
you invent the wheel.
I've got the lamp over my head you flip the light switch.
I'll write the bass line, you sing the high pitch.
You cook for me and look for me when I'm hiding.
I sulk and I'm dull, you're exciting.
Put knives near sockets so you'll save me.
I sleep in late just to hear you call me lazy.
Hard to believe you're here, maybe I dreamed you up last year.
But if things are truly bleaker than they seem.
Then I'll go back to having that dream.
But that's how you make me feel.
I used to lack a sword, now I go out on my shield.
I didn't know what I had, but you brought it out.
I provide the chassis
you invent the wheel.
